With the addition of some cool new basing pastes, I wanted to make my bases better on average. This is not an affiliate, I just like sharing cool things I find that can improve how a miniature looks.
I went about searching the internet and Instagram for greebles to add to my bases. I discovered a variety of companies with numerous products. I decided to give Epic Basing’s products a try.
This company provides physical 3D prints or STLs of various items to add to bases. I purchased some plants and branches, but they also have crystals, coral, and urban debris, all unpainted allowing for customization to augment your project.
There are a ton of products available to miniature painters. I could go the paper plant route but they seem so spindly next to the robust miniature they are placed with. Many of them are already painted and may not fit the look/mood of the scene. I personally like that the plants seem to be in the same universe as the model. 3D printed or resin models seem to be a good choice.
Looking at these, it comes down to a number of factors in why I chose Epic Basing.
- How much product received for the cost. I tend to look at cost to product ratio. I find Epic Basing provides a good cost to product ratio for the physical items I’m receiving, after comparing them to other 3D products on Etsy and other platforms.
- Videos on how to use their product. One would think a miniature painter would know this, but this is a skill unto itself – the skill of bringing the scene to life. I still have a long ways to go with this and that is OK. I like seeing them build up an environment for the model separately, then adding the model so the whole product gives you a story; versus just adding the model and it seems just plopped in the middle of it.
- Quality. The items arrived well packed and when open up looked great. Very few support scars and high quality printed resin. The print lines are fairly non-existent. The details on the models I purchased look great and take paint well.
Above is some photos of minis with items from Epic Basing. The lily behind the halfling, the dead tree (a large branch) seen with the goblin, and the twisted tree seen with the giant are all examples of their products. I think they are great additions to the tool set. Tell me what you think!
